Ever heard of a 12th century East-European method of waterproofing ceramic vessels by dipping them red hot into a batter of flower and yeast? No? Well, after this Saturdays Obvara demonstration you will no longer have any excuse… Obvara, also known as “Baltic Raku” is nowadays mainly used for the lovely organic patters it creates on the surface. Dreams of Clay will be showing this technique throughout the day using two portable woodfired kilns and a couple of batter mixes… we will even try using brewery waste as batter and see what patterns it makes!
